Eve is now old enough for us to explain holidays to her and have her kind of get what they're about. Today, we were talking about Thanksgiving. Our conversation went something like this.
Mama: Thanksgiving is when we say "thank you" for all of the good things in our lives. Like I would say "thank you" for you and Daddy and our house and our family and friends. What would you say "thank you" for?
Eve: My birthday.
Mama: And what else?
Eve: Presents.
Mama: (laughing) Anything else?
Eve: Santa Claus.
Daddy: Well, what about Mama and Daddy? Are you thankful for us?
Eve: (lifting hands up in a questioning gesture) Um, nah.
